Casa Zuma began with a simple desire: to feel more alive in our everyday lives.
When we first discovered an overgrown property above Zuma Beach, something about it felt familiar—like a place we’d known before, perhaps only in a dream. Horse farms stretched out below us. The ocean filled the horizon. Jasmine perfumed the drive, and palms swayed overhead.
A few months later, we had the keys. We spent that first summer living in the faded 1950s bungalow, opening the doors each morning to let the outside in. Our days revolved around walking down the beach, cooking whatever caught our eye at the farmstand, and gathering around the firepit to watch the sun go down.
Without realizing it, life began to move at a different pace. We felt connected to nature, to each other, and to the small details we’d been moving too quickly to notice: the sparkle of the ocean at midday, or the way sunlight moved across the table at golden hour.
We felt our senses coming alive—and we weren’t ready to let that go.
A home that became our muse.
As we imagined a new life here, we wanted to fill our home with objects that reflected it: natural, useful, and made to grow more beautiful with time.
The first was a simple ceramic mug. Designed for slow mornings and brought to life with a ceramicist we loved, it became the Ritual Mug—and the beginning of Casa Zuma.
As we renovated the house that would become the embodiment of Casa Zuma, we continued creating pieces for the life taking shape around us. Created with natural materials and designed to grow more beautiful with use, each piece brings beauty and ease to the rituals of daily life.
